Season thus far + pre-view Atalanta

Hello followers!

The last couple of months have unfortunately been quiet here at Sempre Bologna, but this is about to change. From now on this is the site to visit for everyone with their heart in Bologna. Sempre Bologna is the place to come if you’re interested in articles and news about Bologna in English.

Recap of the season so far:

After the initial embarrasment in Coppa Italia with the loss against Cittadella, the season has been really promising. We started the campaign with a 1-1 draw home against Torino, before we went on to beat newly promoted Benevento 1-0. After this a tough period followed, with losses against Napoli and Fiorentina, even though the performances were quite good. Thereafter came the point against Inter, a match where we really should have won.

Then came the best part of the season so far. Three consecutive victories against Sassuolo, Genoa and Spal has catapulted us to 7th place after 8 games, which is quite remarkable given how we finished last year.

Stand-out players:

Starting at the back, Giancarlo Gonzalez has been a major signing thus far for Bologna. He has fitted in really well with the rest of the defence, and our overall defensive performances have been much better this season.

In midfield, Andrea Poli has been a revelation. After his free-transfer from Milan this summer he has taken on his role at a new club with gusto, performing well in all areas of the field, with his goal against Spal last weekend the cherry on top of the cake.

In attack, Rodrigo Palacio, another new signing, has been the first-choice striker after arriving from Inter. Hardworking, with great technique and an eye for goal, he has been the x-factor that we did not have last season.

Other players that have performed really well is Simone Verdi, which has led him into the Azzurri squad, and Godfred Donsah, who has been essential in our wins this season with his hardworking displays in midfield.

Tomorrow we play against Atalanta in Bergamo. Despite their disapointing start to the season, this match will not be easy for our team. La Dea has performed well in the Europa League this season, and they are a physical side. We have to perform well in order to get the win, but with the confidence we’ve got at the moment, it is quite possible. Latest news regarding the team is that Saphïr Taider and Ibrahima M’baye are both injured. This will bring about a change in our starting 11, with the probable inclusion of Emil Krafth to replace M’baye.

Stay tuned for more!
