Verona are currently in 19th with six points after 12 games. They’ve won only one match thus far, drawn three, and lost eight. They’ve scored 8 goals and conceded 26. Here is a quick overview of their performances this season, as well as the Verona players that can cause problems for Bologna:
Performances:
Their performances this season has not been surprising given that they are a newly promoted side. With six points, only Benevento has been worse this season, but they’re not far off safety, as Sassuolo in 17th are only two points above them. Verona therefore has everything to fight for going into the match against Bologna. Their only win this season came at home against Benevento, and their three draws came away vs. Crotone, at home vs. Sampdoria, and away vs. Torino. Their worst result this season came in round 3, where they lost 5-0 at home against Fiorentina. What’s most disappointing for Verona this season is the fact that they’ve not managed to get wins in games against the likes of Crotone and Cagliari, teams they should beat if they are to avoid relegation. As is the case with Bologna, Verona too has four losses in a row, and they are looking to end this streak on Monday.
Players:
Verona’s greatest attacking threat is the vastly experienced Giampaolo Pazzini, who is their leading goalscorer thus far with four goals to his name. During the summer, Verona signed Alessio Cerci (two assists thus far), who has shown what a brilliant player he is, after a difficult spell at Atletico Madrid. Bologna should also be observant of Daniele Verde, the young winger on loan from Roma, who has played well all season for Verona. These are the players that Bologna should be looking to stop if they are to get something out of the game.
The difference in quality between Verona and Bologna should be big enough for Bologna to win this one. However, the same could be said about the Crotone game, and we all know how that went. With two teams in bad form, do not expect a thrilling match with a lot of goals, but there will probably be a nervy game, with two teams desperate to avoid a loss.
Match preview of the game will be posted Monday morning.
