Spal today confirmed that the loan-deal of Luca Rizzo from Bologna had been cut short. Moments laters Atalanta confirmed that they have loaned the player from Bolgna with an option to buy.

Rizzo has played 11 games for Spal this season scoring two goals in the process. The versatile midfielder struggled to make an impact at Bologna last season after his move from Sampdoria, and to loan him out seemed the best for everyone involved.

Now he’ll take part in Atalanta’s quest for Europe, and with the Bergamo team being a direct competitor for Bologna this transfer seems a bit strange. However, given that Rizzo struggled to make an impact last year, the transfer makes sense as holding on to a player who doesn’t play is financially unwise.
