It was today confirmed that Bologna have loaned Riccardo Orsolini from Juventus until the end of next season, with an option to buy.
The former Ascoli player went to Juventus last year, and was subsequently loaned out to Atalanta last summer. The attacker has struggled to make an impact in Bergamo, and the loan deal was therefore cut short so that Bologna could acquire him. A technical player with an eye for the killer pass, Orsolini is very much a player in the Simone Verdi mould. Orsolini is left-footed like Verdi, as well as favouring the right-hand side of the attack.
This transfer has been rumoured to happen for quite some time now, and it was first thought that Orsolini would be the replacement for Verdi. Since he decided to stay, an acquistion in attack did not seem as important, but that Bologna have acquired him regardless bodes well. The loan deal also includes a buy-back clause for Juventus if Bologna decides to buy him.
Given Verdi’s injury as well as the similarity between the two players, Orsolini may well be the one that replaces Verdi during his time on the sidelines.
